Right-hemispheric dominance for processing extended non-linguistic frequency transitions

Abstract

The left hemisphere is specialized for most linguistic tasks and the right hemisphere is specialized for many non-linguistic tasks, but the cause of these functional asymmetries is unknown. One of the stimulus factors that appears to influence these asymmetries is the rate at which stimuli change. In the present experiment, 41 participants completed the Fused Dichotic Words Test (FDWT) and a non-linguistic Frequency Transition Task (FTT) wherein the Frequency Transitions (FTs) were either rapid (40 ms) or relatively slow (200 ms). There was a right hemisphere advantage for slow FTs when the change was at the front of the stimulus, but no corresponding left hemisphere advantage for the rapid FTs. There was no relationship between either FTT and the left hemisphere advantage exhibited on the FDWT. This finding provides support for the position that the right hemisphere dominates tasks that require temporal processing over relatively long periods of time.

- for three or four months I prefer to block the left ear.
- so... :-) i interpret this result as follows:

the right hemisphere acts as a slight foodprocessor on
a stream of signals (the task), while the left does not
(metaphore), which would explain why choosing
(instinctively) to block /this/ ear, automatically
triggers the hemisphere, which is specialized in
linguistic tasks, /and/ that the signals of the machine
are too dynamic to be processed by the right hemispere
in a comfortable manner. Which in the general view of
the public means it is very monotonic (not creative).

I noted this morning that only an /extremely monotonic/
signal could give rise to a perceptual phenomenon that
is salient by it being monotonic in the first place
(my voices ;-).

I am a health columnist for an area paper and did a column recently after interviewing the author of "Stalking Irish Madness" who told me about the hearing voices network. I got an email from the father of a young woman who hears voices who is looking for a hearing voices group in Connecticut, USA or is there a group in New York City? I'd like to help them out. Ik hoor stemmen na 4 dagen te spelen met EVP, de laatste opname was waarschuwend van aard, na een nacht niet slapen "vlogen" ze naar m'n hoofd en werden al m'n gedachtes herhaald.
Sommige stemmen en bepaald taalgebruik opgenomen als EVP kwam overeen met wat ik later hoorde in m'n hoofd.
Ik ben dan ook van mening dat het een bovennatuurlijk verchijnsel is.
Wat ik kan suggereren is doe eens EVP als je last hebt van stemmen, doe de microfoon bij je hoofd, neem op, versterk de stilte, en je zal opnemen wat je in je hoofd hoort. Mijn gedachten werden hoorbaar in m'n hoofd, omdat ze werden herhaald, met EVP hoorde ik in de opname dat wat ik dacht.

hallo ik ben toevallig op deze site terecht gekomen en ik ben op zoek naar lotgenoten die ook stemmen horen... ik heb medc, helpt niet, ik word er echt dol van !! Ik hoor mijn gedachten hardop. En ze beinvloeden ook mijn gedachten, ze komen sterker door bijv geluid van de computer... Maar ook gewoon in mijn hoofd.. Dit is allemaal gekomen na een drugspsychose.. ik heb er nu bijna 7 maanden last van. en ik wil er vanaf. ik snap er ook niks van, hoe dit kan.. met de medc is t wel iets minder geworden maar heeft iemand tips en is dit herkenbaar, ook worden soms woorden in mijn hoofd gegooid die ik zelf nie denk en niet wil denken, ze zijn kwaadaardig gemeen en zeurderig ... hoop op een berichtje
